Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

Population of the Pavlodar region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 753,5 thousand people, including 533,6 thousand people (70,8%) - urban residents, 219,9 thousand people (29,2%) - rural residents.

Natural population growth in January-March 2024 amounted to 416 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 696 people). For January-March 2024 the number of births was 2245 people (8,6% less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths was 1829 people (3,9% more than in January-March 2023).

The migration balance is negative and amounted to -865 people (in January-March 2023 -464 people), including in external migration a positive balance of 57 people (177), in internal migration a negative balance of -922 people (-641).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 18,9 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,7% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 11764 people, or 2,9% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 352036 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 15,9%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 106,2%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 210765 tenge, which is 14,1% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 3,6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production at current prices in January-April  2024 amounted to 1059857,9  million tenge, which is 6,5% more than in January-April 2023.

In the мining and quarrying volumes increased by 1,4%, in the manufacturing industry - by 9,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning air there was by 4,5%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 16,8%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January- April 2024 amounted to 64181,8 million tenge, or 101,2% by January- April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 9195,6 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 100,5% compared to January-April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 605,4 million pkm, or 107,6% by January-April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 35044,6 million tenge, or 124,6% compared to January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased 5,4% and amounted to 58108 square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings decreased – 85,7% (3871 square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 92,6% (54179 square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- April 2024 amounted to 179890,7 million tenge, or 119,2% by January- April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of Мау 1, 2024 amounted to 17252 units and decreased by 2,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 16897 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 14472 units, including 14117 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 14619 units and decreased by 2,9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-April 2024 compared to January- April 2023 amounted to 107%.  The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 4346514 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2022, real GRP increased by 2,2%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 52,7%, services – 40,3%.

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 104,3%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,9%, non-food products – by 2,4%, paid services for the population – by 8,2%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 2,7%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 172901,9 million tenge, or 3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 189026,9 million tenge, or 7,9% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 439,6 million US dollars and decreased by 12% compared to January-March 2023, including exports – 220,7 million US dollars (by 5,5% compared), imports – 218,9 million US dollars (19,5% compared).
